Sofia Zrazhevska

Sofia Zrazhevska was the toast of Wroclaw after the home favourite claimed the girls’ U19 title at the European Junior Open at Hasta La Vista Club.

At the climax of a wonderful four days, 17-year-old top seed Zrazhevska continued her great form by beating Renske Huntelaar of the Netherlands 11-5 11-5 11-7, finishing the tournament without dropping a game.

In the boys’ U19 final, USA’s Jack Elriani (son of Linda, former world no.3 and US Squash’s Senior Director of Professional Development and Programming) beat Egypt’s Mahmoud Ahmed 11-8 11-8 11-1.

The US and Egyptian flags were also fluttering in the boys’ U17 final, but on this occasion it was the Land of the Pharaohs who triumphed with Michael Fayez’s marathon 11-8 9-11 8-11 11-3 12-10 victory over Lars Gertsen.

The girls’ U17 title was an all-English match up as 3/4 seed Reka Kemecsei overcame Harriet Broadbridge [9/16].

In boys’ U15, Spain’s Lucas Castillo, one of the few top seeds to make it to the final, lost to USA’s Jude Cha [5/8]. North America dominated the girls’ U15 as Joelle Kim (Canada) won, Chelsea Chen (USA) came in second and Olivia Bloger (also Canada) finished third.

Egypt stood atop the podium in the U13s as Malek Ahmed [9/16] and Mariam El-Ozairi [3/4] took the titles home.
